Some Important Things To Bear In Mind Whilst You Are On Board

A. Life Jacket

Always keep your life jacket in an accessible place. You will be shown how to use it before you leave port. If you have any difficulties with your life jacket, ask the tour leader to help you.

B. Mooring

When the boat is mooring, the crew often run around at great speed. You should stay clear of the stern lines, the anchor and the captain’s line of vision. Never get involved yourself even if you think you are being useful. The captain and the crew are highly skilled and you will often be amazed at how small the spaces are in which they are able to moor.

C. Swimming

Never jump into the water until the boat has dropped anchor, the engine has been switched off and the steps have been lowered. You can swim at night but tell the tour leader who will make sure that there is someone on deck. It is illegal to swim in port.

D. Smoking

This is only permitted in the saloon or outside. Always use an ashtray.

E. Fire Extinguishers

The tour leader will show you where these are located. To use one, remove the pin, point at the fire and press the lever.

F. Life Belts

There are life belts (Turkish simit) on deck and the tour leader will show you where these are. If someone falls overboard, throw him/her a life belt and alert a crew member.

H. Water, Electricity and Toilets

Your drinking water is the still, bottled mineral water. Take as much of it as you want - to your cabin and on site visits. It is free of charge. Whenever we are in port, we take on water for washing etc., but the storage tanks have a finite capacity and you should take care not to leave your taps running when you have left the bathroom.

Take care to switch your cabin lights off. It is very easy to leave them on during the day!

Remember that electric points will not work unless the generator has been switched on.

If you have any difficulty operating the toilet, alert the tour leader or a member of the crew. Do not throw any paper or other objects into the bowl. Use the bins provided. The plastic bags are emptied daily and the bags and contents are incinerated when we reach the next port.

On all operations concerning the safety and running of the boat remember that the captain’s word is law!
