| All boats had been told to use channel 72 for Race Committee
bulletins. Of course, a whole bunch didn't know that, but otherwise we
had the entire Bermuda boating community (about 1,000 boats) using one
radio channel. Here are the gems which kept us amused in the chaos: Marshall: vessel north of red buoy, don't drop your anchor there, you will be blocking a channel. Vessel: I am not dropping an anchor, just waiting for the other boats to get out of the way. There are a lot of idiots out here. Random Boater: Yeah, like de guy who was just talking! Vessel: Can the race committee advise who is winning? Random Boater: de boat out front! Vessel: This is tug "Bermudian", can we have permission to enter the race zone, we have a passenger who needs to catch a plane. Race committee: Stand by. Random Boater: what de fat is wrong with Darrell's? Vessel: Race committee, this is vessel "meteor", when will this demo race start? Race committee: It has been finished for a while. Vessel: Lovely! Race committee: please hold your positions until the race boats are on their moorings. Random Boater: how you expect me to do dat? |
