Saturday (16th June, 2001) afternoon and it is hot, very hot, down at Clearwater as the triathletes set up their transitions and get ready for a sprint race (time trails).
The crowd can hardly contain their excitement!! Dorian is off first on the 100m swim and emerges from the water at the path to the transition. Next is Justin, followed closely by Tim and then Ricky.
The four boys arrive back from the 5k cycle ride. Dorian seen eyeing the transition gateway as he approaches. Tim, as always, looking strong after his ride, has gained a commanding lead as he arrives at transition. Justin follows after a good ride, followed closely by Ricky.
At the finish, Dorian takes a first in the under 10s with ??:??. In the under 12s, Tim has a strong finish in first with ??:??. Justin takes a second in ??:??, and Ricky a very close third in ??:??.

It was a special race for Caitlin; her first triathlon!!! After the swim, Caitlin charges up the path to the transition and prepares for her cycle ride. After a very strong run, Caitlin takes a third in ??:??.

And there was another very special race as Ben competes, also in his first triathlon, in the Tiny Tots event. Ben looks like a pro as he finishes his swim and heads with his characteristic determination to the cycle transition area. On his bike, Ben bombs out of the gate and suddenly he is flying back after a very fast cycle ride. Then its the run and, again, Ben shows that he is a force to be reckoned with!!! |
